Welcome to the Mattiverse

no pressure

I've never made a secret of the fact I want freedom, I suppose it's a bit cliche but I've had enough of the 9-5 rat race after having seen friends being made redundant and loyalty all but thrown out the window.

I find writing to be equal parts thrilling and frustrating, but if you were to ask me what I'd want to be doing on any random Tuesday, this would be it. Putting aside my concerns about niches and content for a second, I find being able to move or relate to someone through words to be so important, not just for myself, but for society in general.

I tried starting a newsletter, it lasted less than a day. I can't even blame it on my perfectionism because I managed to publish, but I found that either it turned into something similar to this blog or I had to veer into content, which I'm actively trying to avoid.

It did make me think about this site though, I've loved having my BearBlog.

I've never felt the pressure that I must write, nor did I ever feel like I had to be involved with the community (although I have had some lovely emails from readers over the last few months and they're always appreciated).

I like the principles of the indie web and I want to be involved more, but as someone with no technology knowledge at all, I have no clue where to start. I suppose the first thing is to learn HTML and CSS? I have basic knowledge (enough that I've been able to tweak this site), but not enough to be comfortable making wholesale changes or creating my own theme.

I feel like this is a project that can keep me involved, motivated and hopefully will mean I can build some skills that allow me to work out what my next step is out there in the real world.

No pressure.
